Finding Strength in Pain: Trusting God in Difficult Seasons

When Pain Feels Overwhelming
Physical pain can be exhausting. It distracts us. It drains us. Sometimes we brace ourselves, waiting for the next wave of discomfort, tensing at the first sign of it and simply trying to endure.
But there is another kind of pain: emotional pain.
Loss. Grief. Disappointment. Betrayal. Unmet expectations.
This type of suffering can create turmoil in our minds. We replay conversations. We revisit regrets. We think, “I should have done this,” or “They should have done that.” Guilt, shame, and blame can weigh heavily on our souls.
While many describe stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, acceptance; each person’s journey is unique. Pain is rarely tidy or predictable.
And sometimes, despite our prayers, healing does not come in the way we expect.
God Is Present in the Pain
God certainly heals. At times He heals miraculously in an instant. At other times, healing unfolds slowly. And sometimes, in ways we do not fully understand, relief doesn’t come as we had hoped.
Yet one truth remains constant:
He is with us.
Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble in dread before them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not fail you or abandon you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 (AMP)Even when answers are unclear, His presence is sure.
It may seem counterintuitive, or even impossible to praise God in the midst of suffering. But praise shifts our focus. It draws us closer to Him. It reminds us that our strength does not come from ourselves, but from Him.
When we thank Him and praise Him, even through tears, we lean into His strength instead of our weakness.
Worship in the Wilderness
As we remain near to God, something begins to change within us. We may still feel pain, but we are no longer carrying it alone.
We can worship Him in the wilderness. We can lay our heart, our body, our confusion, and our questions before Him. We can ask, “Lord, what are You shaping in me through this?”
And slowly, sometimes quietly, He strengthens us.
Scripture assures us:
And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.
Romans 8:28 (AMP)This does not mean all things are good. But it does mean God is at work in all situations.
He can bring growth from grief. Compassion from suffering. Depth from disappointment.
And when others watch how we endure with hope, they may glimpse Christ shining through our lives.
Prayer
Father God,
You see every ache, both physical and emotional. You know the weight I carry and the questions I don’t have answers for.
Help me draw near to You in the midst of pain. Teach me to rely on Your strength when mine feels depleted. Give me courage to praise You even when I do not understand.
Work in me and through me, Lord. Let Your presence sustain me.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Activation
Today, choose one small act of trust.
If you are in pain, pause and thank God for one thing, even something simple.
Turn on a worship song and sit quietly in His presence for a few minutes.
Or write down one way you have seen Him sustain you before.Lean into His strength, not your own.
You are not alone in your suffering.

Understanding Your Spiritual Inheritance
Recently, we joined a new connect group and began working through a series by Louie Giglio about Seeing God as a perfect Father — and seeing ourselves as loved, pursued, and secure.
During one discussion, the topic of genetics came up. It sparked a fascinating conversation.
If we know our birth parents, we are often aware of what we’ve inherited, physically, emotionally, or even creatively. We may recognise:
- A family resemblance
- Musical or artistic ability
- Strong health
- A certain personality trait
And sometimes, we are also aware of traits we wish we hadn’t inherited: allergies, medical conditions, addictive tendencies, or physical characteristics we struggle to accept.
Genetics shape us in ways we cannot fully control.
But what if we considered a different kind of inheritance?
You Carry Your Father’s Spiritual DNA
As sons and daughters of God, we belong to a spiritual family tree. Our inheritance is not limited to earthly genetics. We are invited into something far richer.
From Father God, we inherit:
- Deep, unfailing love
- Mercy beyond measure
- Patience and perseverance
- Creativity and purpose
- Eternal perspective
From Jesus, the Son, we reflect:
- Compassion
- Humility
- Servanthood
- Courage and truth
- Forgiveness
And through the Holy Spirit, we receive:
- Guidance and comfort
- Wisdom and discernment
- Spiritual gifts
- Strength in weakness
- Conviction and direction
This inheritance is extraordinary.
These qualities are not distant ideals. They are part of the transformation God is working within us.
Becoming More Like Christ
Scripture reminds us:
And with no veil we all become like mirrors who brightly reflect the glory of the Lord Jesus. We are being transfigured into his very image as we move from one brighter level of glory to another. And this glorious transfiguration comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (TPT)Transformation does not happen through self-effort alone. It happens through surrender.
When we feel like a hopeless case…
When we believe we can’t change…
When old habits seem stronger than our faith…We must remember: we are not the ones doing the transforming.
God is.
As we submit to Him, to His correction, His guidance, and His love, He reshapes us. He strengthens where we have been weak. He builds character where we once lacked it. He makes possible what once felt impossible.
We are being formed into the likeness of Christ.
That is our spiritual DNA.
Living from Your True Identity
Sometimes we define ourselves by what we inherited naturally: personality flaws, family dysfunction, past mistakes.
But our deepest identity is not determined by earthly genetics.
We belong to God.
We are part of His family.
We carry His image.
And every day, as we draw close to Him, that inheritance becomes more visible in our lives.
Prayer
Father God,
Thank You that I am part of Your family. Thank You that my identity is rooted in You, not in my past or my weaknesses.
Transform me into the likeness of Christ. Grow Your love, patience, courage, and compassion within me. Help me reflect Your character in my home, my relationships, and my daily life.
Shape me by Your Spirit.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Activation
Take a few quiet moments today and ask yourself:
Which characteristic of God do I long to see more clearly in my life?
Is it patience? Courage? Compassion? Forgiveness?
Write it down. Then pray specifically for that trait to grow in you this week. Pay attention to moments when God gives you an opportunity to practice it.
You are not trying to become someone new.
You are becoming who you were always meant to be.

Becoming Like Christ: God’s Call to Spiritual Transformation

If you would prefer to listen to this message as a podcast, you can enjoy it on The Jesus 4 Generations Podcast here:
https://ozsazzles.podbean.com/e/embracing-christs-image-a-call-for-transformation/You can also listen on your favourite streaming platform, including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
Gathering with Expectation
Recently, my husband and I attended the Australian Prophetic Summit. Believers had gathered from across the country, and there was something deeply powerful about worshipping together. The atmosphere carried anticipation. A sense that God was stirring hearts.
Several speakers shared profound insight, but one message in particular stayed with me long after the conference ended.
It centred on this verse:
For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Romans 8:29 (ESV)That phrase struck me deeply: conformed to the image of His Son.
Called to Become Like Christ
This calling is not reserved for a select few. It is for all of us.
Every believer is invited into transformation, into becoming more like Jesus in character, thought, attitude, and action. No one is excluded. No one is more “qualified” than another.
And yet, this isn’t something we would likely have chosen on our own. If given the option, we may have aimed lower. Perhaps settling for simply “being a better person.”
But God’s vision for us is far greater.
He calls us to Christlikeness.
Not through pressure, but through transformation.
Transformation Is a Process
We are not there yet. This is a lifelong journey.
Spiritual growth is not a competition. It is not about comparing ourselves to others or assuming we’ve “arrived.” It is a shared journey, one where we support and encourage one another as the body of Christ.
Each of us has received spiritual gifts. These are not badges of honour, but tools for building others up. As we grow together, we reflect Jesus more clearly.
And here is the beautiful truth:
We are not the ones doing the transforming.God is.
We surrender.
He shapes.We submit.
He strengthens.
The Role of the Holy Spirit
Christ has not left us alone in this calling. He has given us His Spirit.
Scripture reminds us:
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)Notice that the Spirit produces the fruit.
Our role is to remain close to Him, listening, responding, yielding when He nudges us.
Imagine how different our lives would look if we responded to every situation in a Christlike manner.
How different would our marriages be?
Our families?
Our workplaces?
Our communities? The world would encounter more patience. More mercy. More creativity. More grace.
And that transformation begins within us.
Becoming Who We Were Meant to Be
God’s desire is not merely to improve us, but to transform us.
He invites us into a life that reflects Jesus in thought, word, and action. A life that shines with love and humility. A life empowered by the Holy Spirit.
It may feel impossible at times.
But what seems impossible for us is entirely possible for God.
Prayer
Father God,
Thank You for calling me into something greater than I would have chosen for myself. Thank You for the gift of transformation.
Help me surrender daily to Your shaping work. Grow the fruit of Your Spirit within me. Make me more like Jesus in my relationships, my reactions, and my inner life.
I trust You to complete what You have begun.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Activation
Today, ask yourself:
Where is God inviting me to respond more like Christ?
Is it in patience?
In humility?
In forgiveness?
In courage?Choose one area and consciously submit it to Him this week. When the opportunity arises, pause and ask, “Holy Spirit, how would You respond here?”
Transformation begins in small, surrendered moments.

9 Types of Christian Prayers Explained

If you would prefer to listen to this post, click on the link below, or copy and paste it into your browser and listen for free on Podbean. Alternatively, you can listen to The Jesus 4 Generations Podcast on your favourite streaming platform, e.g. Spotify, Apple Podcasts, etc.
https://ozsazzles.podbean.com/e/9-types-of-christian-prayer/
There are all sorts of prayers. When I googled the different types of Christian prayers some sites said 4, others 7 and others 10. I have put together a general list:
- Giving thanks or thanksgiving prayer for what God has done for us or given us.
- Prayer of praise or blessing God for who he is.
- Lamenting prayers where we bring what troubles us to God – for example anxiety, doubts and despair.
- Petitioning God or praying for God to give us what we need.
- Deliverance prayers, asking God to rescue us or deliver us from danger, and evil.
- Repenting, or asking God to forgive us for our misdeeds or alternatively, for something we should have done but did not do.
- Guiding prayers, asking God to give us directions of the best way forward.
- Interceding, or asking for something family, friends, our community, our nation or the world needs.
When we pray, how do we pray and what do we say? Do we give God a big list of wants and needs? Do we tell our loving Father and creator of the universe how we want these prayers answered? Do we become despondent if prayers aren’t answered how we want and within a timeframe we feel is appropriate?
Have we ever stopped and asked God what he wants us to pray for and how he wants us to pray? Prayer is communication with our loving God. It is a two-way street. We must learn to draw close to Him and listen to what is on His heart and what He desires. The Bible gives us a good blueprint to follow to get into His presence:
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
Psalm 100:4-5 (NIV)
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations. So we enter His gates – make our way over the threshold, past the barrier of the walls around the courtyard by thanking Him for what He has done. What barrier might we encounter to entering His gates? Often it’s something we have done or failed to do, e.g. pride, anger, selfishness, not prioritising getting close to God or avoiding god as we know we will be convicted of something.
Next we enter His courts by praising Him. When we enter His courts we are getting closer to Him and going deeper. When we praise we are talking about who He is and His characteristics.
However, to get up close to God and fully enter His presence, we must do more:
Exalt the Lord our God
Psalm 99:5 (NIV)
and worship at his footstool;
he is holy. The ninth type of prayer is worship. We enter His presence by worshiping at His footstool. Often we use the words worship and praise synonymously, however, worship and praise are different. Focus on the Family state that praise is the fruit of the lips, it is communicated by spoken word or song or another creative expression. Worship, on the other hand, is the fruit of the heart, it is about love and appreciation, it is losing yourself in adoring God and utterly giving your all. You can worship in silence.
So once we have transitioned to worshiping, we can spend time at God’s feet and listen to Him. We can grow to know Him. We can ask Him what and how He wants us to pray. We can be still and rest in His presence.
From this position, powerful prayers are birthed, where we co-labor to bring about God’s good plans.
I’d love to hear about your prayer and intercessory life, as well as how you draw close to God. Please share your favorite type of prayer and your prayer experiences in the comments and subscribe so you don’t miss any posts.
