    A Difficult Diagnosis

Like many families, 2022 brought both joy and challenge for us.

But nothing prepared us for the most distressing moment of all, the unexpected diagnosis of a serious heart condition in our unborn grandchild.

The medical team were deeply concerned and recommended termination.

But the baby’s mother and father stood firm.

    They said no.

    Instead, they chose life.

    Walking Through Uncertainty

The pregnancy was closely monitored. Each month, the parents attended a tertiary hospital where detailed scans were performed, with a pediatric cardiologist present.

The doctors recommended further testing through amniocentesis—a procedure that carries a significant risk of miscarriage. The parents declined.

They were told their baby would likely be born with one of several congenital conditions and were encouraged to prepare themselves.

Naturally, there were moments where we struggled to understand.

    Why this baby?
    Why this situation?

Some questions don’t have answers this side of heaven.

But even in those moments, we chose to anchor ourselves in God’s goodness.

    Standing Together in Faith

    We were not alone.

My husband and I were joined by our church’s pastoral care team, Christian friends and family, and our School of Faith community. Together, we prayed.

    As Scripture says:

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

    Matthew 18:20 (NIV)

We declared God’s healing over this baby.

    We spoke His promises.
We reminded ourselves of who He is.

“Regardless of what we see or hear, You are a good, gracious, and merciful God. You created the universe and you can heal this baby.”

    Remembering God’s Faithfulness

In the waiting, we strengthened our faith by remembering what God had already done.

    We spoke about His goodness:

    • The blessings in our family and relationships
    • The ways He had provided and guided us
    • Testimonies of healing we had witnessed

We even recalled a woman who had been healed—where metal in her body had dissolved, confirmed by X-ray. I also reflected on how God had healed my own gut through prayer, wise choices, and support.

God is still in the business of healing.

    As the Bible says:

By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can see.

    Acts 3:16 (NIV)

    The Miracle

After months of prayer and believing, everything changed.

In December, a month before the baby was born, the parents went for another scan.

That afternoon, I received a FaceTime call at work from my daughter.

I whispered, “Hang up and call me back. I’m at work!”

But she said, “Mum… you’re going to want to hear this!”

With joy overflowing, they told me:

The baby’s heart had almost completely healed.

There was only a 0.3mm difference from being within the normal range.

The baby could now be born naturally at the local hospital.
The specialists were no longer expecting complications.

And the pediatric cardiologist said something remarkable:

He had never seen a reversal like this in his career.

    A Faithful God

    Praise God!

What a good, gracious, and powerful God we serve.

This miracle has been one of the greatest blessings our family has ever received—and the most beautiful Christmas gift we could imagine.

    A Word of Encouragement

If you are believing for a miracle today, don’t lose heart.

    God sees you.
    He hears your prayers.
And He is able to do far more than we could ever ask or imagine.

Hold onto Him. Keep praying. Keep believing.

    Prayer

    Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You are a miracle-working God.
Thank You for Your love, Your power, and Your faithfulness.

For those who are waiting, believing, and praying today, strengthen their hearts.
    Fill them with hope.
Remind them that You are present, even in uncertainty.

Help us to trust You, no matter what we see.
And teach us to stand firm in faith, knowing that You are always good.

    In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Rest, Priorities and Peace: Aligning Our Lives with What Matters Most

When life feels full and your energy is running low, it’s often not because you’re doing too little, but because you’re carrying too much without the right order

    When Life Feels Overwhelming

Household chores, supporting the people we love, work responsibilities, and even ministry, these are all good things.

But they can also become exhausting.

In the busyness of life, it’s easy to forget what matters most.
Our time with God. The quiet place where we are refreshed, restored, and realigned, can slowly slip to the bottom of the list.

We may feel pressure to keep pushing, to burn the candle at both ends, or to keep showing up for everyone else… even when we are running on empty.

    Rest Is Not Weakness

Contrary to what the world often tells us, rest is not a sign of weakness.

    It is not wrong to:

    • Sleep
    • Take time to eat well
    • Do something simply because it brings you joy
    • Set healthy boundaries with work, family, friends, or even church commitments

In fact, these things are necessary.

Without them, we risk burnout, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

As Jack Frost shares in Experiencing The Father’s Embrace, our priorities should be:

    1. God
    2. Family
    3. Ministry

And Roberts Liardon reminds us in God’s Generals that without caring for our physical health—through rest, nutrition, and balance—we cannot sustain our lives or calling well.

    Jesus Invites Us to Rest

The Bible speaks so beautifully about rest:

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest…”

    Matthew 11:28–30 (ESV)

    What a gentle invitation.

Not “come when you’ve finished everything.”
Not “come when you’ve earned it.”

    Just… come.

Jesus doesn’t place more weight on us, He lifts it.

    Reordering Our Priorities

Over time, I’ve found it helpful to clearly define my priorities. They guide my decisions and help me discern where my time and energy should go.

Here is the order I try to live by:

    1. My Relationship with God

He is my anchor, my strength, and my source. Without Him, I am like a ship without a rudder.

    2. Caring for My Health

This includes eating well, exercising, maintaining a healthy sleep routine, and allowing space for joy and rest.

    3.  My Husband and Family

My husband is my helpmate, my encourager, and my partner in faith. Together we are stronger.
My family follows close behind—loving them, supporting them, and modelling Christ in everyday life.

    4. My Ministry

Serving others is important—but it flows best when everything else is in order.

Living from a Place of Peace

When we honour our priorities and take care of ourselves, something beautiful happens.

    We begin to:

    • Operate from peace instead of pressure
    • Give from fullness instead of emptiness
    • Respond with gentleness, patience, and kindness

We have the energy to love well—both in the small moments and the significant ones.

And our lives begin to reflect the heart of Jesus more clearly.

    A Gentle Reminder

You don’t have to do everything.
You don’t have to carry everything.
And you don’t have to run yourself into the ground to prove your worth.

God is not asking you to burn out for Him.
He is inviting you to walk with Him.

    Prayer

    Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You are a God of peace, not pressure.
You see the demands on my life and the areas where I feel stretched and tired.

Help me to realign my priorities according to Your will.
Teach me to rest without guilt and to set healthy boundaries with wisdom and grace.

Draw me back into that quiet place with You, where my soul is refreshed.
Restore my strength, renew my mind, and fill me with Your peace.

    In Jesus’ name, Amen.

    Activation

Take 10–15 minutes today to gently reflect:

    • Are my current priorities aligned with God’s best for me?
    • Where am I feeling stretched too thin?
    • What is one small boundary or change I can make this week?

Then take one simple step—whether it’s resting, saying no, or spending intentional time with God.

Right now is always the best time to begin.

  • Transforming Self-righteousness: A Path to Unity and Love

    https://unsplash.com/@sharonmccutcheon

Life can be very full. We meet and communicate with many people every day. These people are likely to be preoccupied with things in their own life. At times we may encounter different perspectives and friction. How do we respond?

I know I have truly struggled with this in the past. Mistakenly believing my opinion was the only point of view worth considering, I would rigidly hold onto my need to be right, and try to change the other persons mind. If I later discovered I was incorrect, I felt as though someone had taken something from me. Have you ever wrestled with anything like this?

Reacting strongly to someone else’s viewpoint can lead to relationship breakdowns. Regardless of our intentions, it is unlikely to end well.

First we must become aware that our need to be right is the real problem, and not the other person’s opinion. For what is an opinion:

A view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge

    https://languages.oup.com/google-dictionary-en

Sometimes I have viewed my opinions as facts. And boy oh boy have I been wrong at times. If my thinking and requirement to always be correct is an obstacle to loving my neighbour, I have a problem.

The New Testament and the commandments are where I find my rules to live by. Loving my God and loving my neighbour as myself are the top two commandments according to Jesus.

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

    Romans 12:18 NIV

Being in unity does not mean we all have to have the same opinion. We are all unique individuals, each with his or her own perspective. We are called to live in fellowship with all. This is possible if we submit our will to His and walk in love and humility on this earth.

So, we take this self-righteousness to God. We apologise and tell Him we want to change. We ask Him to transform our minds to make us more Christ-like every day and we accept our forgiveness.

Our Father God loves us so much. He sent His only son to die on the cross for our sins, so we might be saved. He won’t withhold His goodness to His children.

  • My dreams or His?

    george-lemon-DsbZSXqNYTM-unsplash.jpg

I hear from a lot of older Christian’s that their dreams are unfulfilled. They feel like they have missed out and are disillusioned.

I find this astonishing as we have a good and loving God who fulfils his promises. He will not fail you if the dream was a promise of His.

I encourage you to carefully analyse these dreams. What is your dream.? Is it a God given dream that He placed on your heart? Where and when did it arise? What do you think is God’s hope if this dream is fulfilled? What are you hoping to achieve if this dream is realised?

I am not saying we cannot have desires, and wants. But if we are blaming God for not achieving a dream we need to know if this is God breathed or not.

What does scripture say about dreams?

For when dreams increase and words grow many, there is vanity; but God is the only one you must fear.

    Ecc 5:7 ESV

Does your dream align with God’s good and perfect will? Is this dream good for the body of Christ and for furthering His kingdom? Or is it a desire you have? Is it self-serving? Was it an adolescent flight of fancy? Will it increase your status and glorify you? Or will it glorify God and further his kingdom on earth? Is it a covenant promise from God (think Abraham and Sarah)?

I think this writer explains dreams and visions in the OT and NT very well:

God used dreams and visions (visions are “waking dreams”; see Numbers 24:4) several times in the Bible to communicate with people.
God used visions in the Old Testament to reveal His plan, to further His plan, and to put His people in places of influence.
Visions in the New Testament also served to provide information that was unavailable elsewhere. Specifically, God used visions and dreams to identify Jesus and to establish His church.

    https://www.gotquestions.org/dreams-visions-Bible.html

If it is your desire or want, you are completely responsible for achieving it. So, you must do all the work and toil required to reach your goal. Don’t blame God if your desires do not come to fruition.

If it is a promise of God’s you will usually know, as it will be impossible to achieve without His help. Think Moses and releasing the Israelites from Egypt. God will partner with you and co-labour with you. However, you are responsible for stepping into it and walking it out. He will lend His strength and all the resources of heaven to help you achieve it.

  • Honouring one another

    Hannah Busing on unsplash https://unsplash.com/

It’s common for human beings to feel the need to be accepted, liked and be a part of a group. This typically occurs at school, work, in social situations and even with family. At times, we can be drawn into, or initiate harmful conversations in order to obtain “entry” into one of these groups. These discussions may occur in any social situation, and even online.

The incredible advances that technology has brought, have also come with their fair share of problems. Smart phones are prone to dependence with a burst of dopamine and instant gratification whenever someone receives a text, “like” or a “comment” on one of their posts.

Social media pushes the idea of the “instagram” life, look, family, and holiday. The internet is full of polished pictures taken at flattering angles with well rehearsed smiles. You do not see the 50 photos that occurred prior to the “perfect” one being chosen to publish. Neither do you witness the pressure, little annoyances or disagreements any family is likely to encounter during the production of this “masterpiece”. This type of communication can be shallow, without any real human connection. Its aim may be to obtain approval, recognition, adoration and influence. Individuals may be wanting to commercialise their life. It can also trigger feelings of rejection and inadequacy when they don’t receive a response to texts and posts.

The darker side of social media happens when people judge, criticise and condemn someone on a public platform from the privacy of their own home. This causes humiliation and untold harms. Individuals can and do say things that they would never do if they were face to face with the person. As humans we are wired to read the facial expressions of others. If we notice someone is becoming upset or uncomfortable with how we are expressing ourselves or responding to them, we can check on their feelings, we can check on ourselves and be more respectful, and we can apologise or change the conversation. Unfortunately, we are not able to read someone’s reactions well from a text, GIF or emoji (no matter how cute some of them may be).

Jesus is our best example on how to live and be with others. He is love and spoke truth with love. Jesus said: .

The second is like it, “you shall love your neighbour as yourself [that is unselfishly seek the best or higher good for others]”

    Matt 22:39 (AMP)

I think it’s important to search our hearts and check our motives before we even open our mouths, or type a reply to anything we hear or read. Do we need to stop and take a breath? Will we take the time to enquire of and listen to the Holy Spirit’s urging? Are we considering how our reaction would make us feel, if we were in their shoes? Does our answer sound like something Jesus would say?

We are a royal priesthood, called to live as Christ did, not to conform to the ways of this world. In reality, Christians are strange people, at odds with this world. Phil Dooley was discussing the transformation of our minds and lives recently and said he was going to declare daily, 1 Cor 13:4-8 and change the word love to I”. It reads like this:

I am patient. I am kind. I do not envy, do not boast and am not proud. I do not dishonour others, I am not self-seeking, I am not easily angered, I keep no record of wrongs. I do not delight in evil, but rejoice with the truth. I always protect, always trust, always hope, always persevere.

As ambassadors of God, how we live in community demonstrates Christianity to those around us, including our children, grandchildren, neighbours, work colleagues, etc. What does the bible teach us about living in community and with others?

And never let ugly or hateful words come from your mouth, but instead let your words become beautiful gifts that encourage others; do this by speaking words of grace to help them.

    Ephesians 4:29 (TPT)

If you believe your face to face and online communication falls short of this, I encourage you to read the gospels and ask God for the gifts of love, mercy, understanding and encouragement. He will not disappoint you.

God bless you and your family.

  • Forgiveness: Letting Go of Bitterness and Embracing God’s Peace

Forgiveness: Letting Go of Bitterness and Embracing God’s Peace

Holding onto hurt may feel justified—but it quietly steals your peace. What if forgiveness isn’t about them… but about your freedom.

If you’d prefer to listen to this post, click on the link below and listen for free on Podbean. Alternatively, you can listen to The Jesus 4 Generations Podcast on your favorite streaming platform.

    https://ozsazzles.podbean.com/e/7-forgiveness/

    When Hurt Takes Root

As human beings, we live, work, and grow in communities, and sometimes, we get hurt.

Words are spoken. Actions are misunderstood. Even when intentions weren’t harmful, the impact can linger.

Over time, our perspective can become skewed. We replay moments in our minds, retelling the story again and again. And with each retelling, the story can subtly change—growing heavier, deeper, and more painful.

Before we know it, we’re no longer just remembering the hurt, we’re living in it.

Some wounds are carried for years… even decades. Sometimes long after the person who hurt us is no longer even here.

    The Danger of Holding On

Now, this doesn’t dismiss real pain. There are genuine hurts, deep betrayals, and serious wrongs in this world.

But when we hold tightly to those hurts and revisit them repeatedly, something happens within us.

We begin to form patterns, deep mental pathways, that shape how we think, speak, and respond. These painful memories can become our “normal,” our default setting.

What started as a wound can become a way of life.

Instead of sharing testimonies of hope, we may find ourselves speaking more about pain.
Instead of reflecting God’s goodness, our words can begin to echo loss, disappointment, and bitterness.

    The Power of Our Words

    Scripture reminds us:

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

    Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)

What are we speaking over our lives?

Are we planting seeds of hope, healing, and a future with God?
Or are we unknowingly reinforcing pain through the stories we tell ourselves?

Our words matter. Our thoughts matter. Our focus matters.

God’s Way: Forgiveness That Leads to Freedom

    So what do we do?

Do we follow the world’s way, holding onto bitterness, seeking justice on our own terms, or trying to “get even”?

Or do we choose God’s way?

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

    Ephesians 4:32 (ESV)

Forgiveness is not always easy, but it is always powerful.

Jesus made it clear that forgiveness is central to our faith:

For if you forgive others their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your father forgive your trespasses.

    Matthew 6:14-15 (ESV)

And when Peter asked how many times he should forgive, Jesus responded:

    Seventy times seven.

    In other words keep forgiving.

A Radical Call: Love Your Enemies

Jesus didn’t just stop at forgiveness. He went even further:

“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”

    Matthew 5:44 (NIV)

This is not the way of the world, it is the way of the Kingdom.

God’s Kingdom operates differently. It calls us higher. It invites us into freedom, even when it feels unnatural.

    Living in God’s Kingdom Perspective

When we choose forgiveness, we align ourselves with God’s heart.

Jesus described this Kingdom life in the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3–12)—a life marked by humility, mercy, purity, and peace.

Forgiveness is not about excusing what happened.
It’s about releasing what’s holding you captive.

It’s about choosing peace over pain.
    Freedom over bitterness.
    Healing over hurt.

    When Forgiveness Feels Impossible

There may be times when forgiveness feels out of reach.

And that’s okay. You don’t have to do it alone.

God sees your heart. He understands your pain. And He will help you.

If you are struggling to forgive, start with a simple prayer:

    “Lord, help me.”

He is faithful. He will meet you where you are and gently lead you toward freedom.

    Prayer

    Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your incredible mercy and forgiveness toward me.
You see the hurts I carry, the wounds that are still tender, and the pain I sometimes struggle to release.

Today, I ask for Your help.
    Soften my heart.
Give me the strength to forgive, even when it feels difficult.
Heal the places within me that still ache.

Teach me to walk in Your ways—to choose love, grace, and peace.
Help me to release bitterness and embrace the freedom You have for me.

Fill my heart with Your peace that surpasses all understanding.
    In Jesus’ name, Amen.

    Activation

Today, take one small step toward forgiveness:

    • Bring one person or situation to God in prayer
    • Speak a blessing over them (even if it feels hard)
    • Ask God to help you release the hold that hurt has on your heart

You don’t have to fix everything today. Just take the first step.

Freedom often begins with a single, surrendered moment.

Your Life Speaks: The Power of a Living Testimony

Sometimes the most powerful testimony we have isn’t what we say—it’s how we live.

A Testimony That Speaks Without Words

The evidence of a transformed life is a powerful, unspoken testimony.

How we live, what we say, our character, and our actions all leave a lasting imprint on those around us, especially our children and grandchildren.

    Our lives are always speaking.

We can live in a way that draws people toward Jesus…
Or in a way that unintentionally pushes them away.

    What’s Overflowing From Your Heart?

    Scripture reminds us:

“…For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”

    Luke 6:45 (NKJV)

Our words are a window into our hearts.

So it’s worth asking ourselves gently:

    • What is overflowing from my heart right now?
    • Do my words reflect peace, joy, love, kindness, and patience?
    • Or do they reveal frustration, criticism, or negativity?

This is not about condemnation, it’s about awareness and invitation.

    The Power of Our Words

The tongue has the power of life and death and those who love it will eat its fruit.

    Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)

    Our words carry incredible power.

We can build others up, or tear them down.
We can speak hope, or spread discouragement.

Think back over the past week:

    • Were your words kind and life-giving?
    • Did you show empathy and understanding?
    • When others weren’t present, did you honour them, or drift into gossip?

These are gentle questions that help us grow, not reasons to feel discouraged.

    Called to Love Like Jesus

    Jesus made it beautifully simple:

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.

    Mark 12:30–31 (NIV)

This is the foundation of our testimony.

And yes, we all struggle with this at times.

But God, in His grace, invites us to begin again.

    To soften our hearts.
    To choose love.
    To speak life.

A Life That Points to Jesus

When we allow God to transform our hearts, our words begin to change.

And when our words change, our relationships begin to shift.

Over time, our lives become a living testimony. One that quietly points others toward Jesus.

    Not through perfection…
But through authenticity, humility, and love.

    Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your transforming power in my life.
Search my heart and help me to become more like You.
Teach me to speak words that bring life, encouragement, and love.
Help me to reflect Your heart in my conversations, my actions, and my relationships.
May my life be a testimony that draws others closer to You.
    In Jesus’ name, Amen.

    Activation

Take a moment today to reflect:

👉 Think about one recent conversation
👉 Ask: “Did my words bring life?”
👉 Choose one intentional way to speak encouragement today

Even one small change can make a big difference.

A Love That Reflects God’s Heart

The power of prayer never ceases to amaze me.

When my children were born, I was completely besotted with them. That deep love only grew stronger with each passing day. And yet, as incredible as that love is, God loves them, and us, even more.

    He is a good Father.
He desires every good thing for our lives and for our families.

    Simple Prayers, Lasting Impact

When my three children were young, I began praying a simple prayer over them every day:

“Dear God, bless my children. Keep them safe. Protect them and, in time, bless them with loving and supportive partners. People they will love and who will love them in return.”

    It wasn’t complicated.
    But it was consistent.

I prayed this prayer for years… even decades.

Through the Teenage Years (and Beyond!)

Now, let’s be honest, there were moments when it didn’t look like those prayers were being answered!

There were seasons of teenage chaos:

    • Hair so unwashed it seemed to defy gravity
    • Oversized black clothing and dramatic eye-rolling
    • Emotional outbursts like, “Why are you trying to ruin my life?!”

And just when you think it’s over… teenage-hood seems to stretch well into their twenties!

There were many times we had to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and keep going. And yes, there may have been a few extra wrinkles and grey hairs along the way!

But through it all, we held on.

    God Is Faithful

I am so grateful to say: God answers prayer.

Each of my children has been blessed with a loving, supportive partner.

My daughter-in-law—affectionately known as “the magical unicorn”—not only looks amazing, but more importantly has a beautiful, kind heart. She is a wonderful partner to my son and a loving mother.

My son-in-law, who was once surprised by how loud and lively our family is, has embraced us fully. He is thoughtful, steady, and devoted to his family.

And my other son-in-law brings kindness, humour, and joy. He is a loving husband and a fun father.

When I look at them all, I see answered prayer.

Trusting God With What Matters Most

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

    Mark 11:24 (ESV)

    Prayer is powerful.

    Not always immediate.
Not always in the way we expect.

    But always heard.

    God sees your children.
    He knows your family.
And He is at work, even when you cannot see it.

    An Invitation to Pray

If you are in the thick of parenting… or even praying for adult children, don’t lose heart.

    Your prayers matter.

Even the simple, repeated prayers whispered in faith are shaping something far greater than you can imagine.

    Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of family.
Thank You that You love our children even more than we do.
We place them into Your hands today, trusting You to guide, protect, and bless them.
Lord, bring the right people into their lives. Surround them with love, wisdom, and support.
Strengthen us as we continue to pray and trust You.
    In Jesus’ name, Amen.

    Activation

Today, take a moment to pray intentionally for your family:

👉 Speak a simple blessing over your children or loved ones
👉 Pray for their future, their relationships, and their faith
👉 Write your prayer down and return to it regularly

    Consistency matters more than complexity.

Right now is always the best time to begin.

The power of prayer never ceases to amaze me. I know each of my children are a blessing from God. When they were born, I was besotted with them. My love for them has grown daily since then. We have a good God and as hard as it may sound, He loves us even more than we love our children and grandchildren. He wants every good thing for us and our family.

When my three children were born I prayed for them daily. A simple prayer along these lines –

Dear God, Bless [name of child or children]. Keep them safe. Protect them and bless them with a loving and supportive partner when they grow up. Someone they love and care for and who loves and cares for them.

I prayed this prayer nightly for decades. At times it seemed as though it might fail, when my teenagers’ engaged in behaviours that seemed unlikely to appeal to anyone, let alone a great partner, i.e.:

    • Refusing to wash their hair when it was so dirty it could stand up by itself and the plants wilted as they walked by.
    • Wearing black oversized clothes and acting sullen and moody all the time. Rolling their eyes at me whenever I said anything at all.
    • Having no emotional regulation skills at all and screaming “Why are you trying to ruin my life!” at me and my husband.

But somehow we muddled through teenage-hood and surprisingly, everyone survived! Don’t be fooled by the experts. In my experience teenage-hood can last well into their late twenties! At times you will have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again. It’s likely you will accumulate a few extra wrinkles and grey hairs in the process.

I am happy to say my God answers prayers. Each of my children have attracted lovely supportive partners into their lives.

My daughter-in-law, affectionately known as “the magical unicorn”, because she always looks amazing but more importantly is a lovely young woman, with a kind and caring heart. She is the perfect partner for my son and a loving mother to my grandson.

My son-in-law who was initially blown away by how loud and raucous our family is, has grown used to us over the years. He is a considerate and insightful young man and is a wonderful husband and devoted father to my grandson.

My other son-in-law has a generous and kind heart with a great sense of humour. He is an affectionate husband and fun father, who will take the time to play with his children.

So as you can see from this post, my prayers have been granted. As it says in the bible:

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

    Mark 11:24 ESV

You Are Not Too Weak: How God Uses Your Imperfections for His Glory

Have you ever looked back on your life and wondered… “What if I had come to God sooner?” Or questioned whether your past has disqualified you? You are not alone… and you are not disqualified.

When the Past Tries to Speak Louder Than Grace

My loyal God has been with me always, even before I welcomed Him fully into my life. He was gently drawing me, loving me, and patiently calling me closer.

And when I finally said yes, when I invited Him to be my Lord and Saviour, He didn’t hesitate. He moved into this humble temple and began a beautiful work of transformation… a work He has never abandoned and never will.

Yet sometimes, my thoughts drift backward.

I think about the years I lived with Him on the edges of my life. The times I only called on Him when I was in need. The missed opportunities. The “what could have beens.”

And if I’m not careful, those thoughts can spiral into guilt, regret, and even shame.

Have you ever felt that way too?

Recognising the Voice That Pulls You Away

In those moments, I’ve learned to pause and ask myself a very important question:

“Are these thoughts drawing me closer to Jesus… or pulling me away from Him?”

Because not every thought deserves a place in our minds.

Some thoughts are not from God. They are distractions designed to discourage us, to make us feel unworthy, and to cause us to shrink back, just like Adam did in the garden.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

    2 Corinthians 10:15 (NIV)

Scripture reminds us to be alert and to take our thoughts captive. Why? Because what we dwell on shapes how we live.

When our thoughts lead us toward guilt and hiding, they are not aligned with God’s heart for us.

God Is Not Dwelling on Your Past

Here’s the truth that has set me free time and time again:

God is not focused on the years you “missed.”

He is not standing over you with a list of regrets.

    Instead, heaven is rejoicing.

Jesus paints this beautiful picture in the parable of the lost coin, when something lost is found, there is celebration. Joy. Rejoicing.

That is how God responds when we come to Him.

    Not with disappointment…
    But with delight.

    Not with condemnation…
    But with celebration.

Your Weakness Is Not a Disqualification

Sometimes we feel too flawed, too broken, or too late.

But God sees things very differently.

    He doesn’t ask for perfection.
    He asks for surrender.

    He doesn’t require strength.
    He works through weakness.

    His Word reminds us:

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

    2Cor 12:9 (NIV)

That means the very areas you feel insecure about…
The parts of your story you wish you could erase…

Those are the very places God can shine the brightest.

Right Now Is Always the Best Time to Begin

If you’ve been looking back with regret, let this be your gentle reminder:

    You are not too late.
    You are not too flawed.
    You are not too weak.

God is not asking you to go back.

    He is inviting you forward.

Right now is always the best time to begin.

    Prayer

    Lord,
Thank You that You are a loving and patient God.
Thank You that You do not hold my past against me, but welcome me with open arms.

Help me to recognise the thoughts that pull me away from You, and give me the strength to replace them with Your truth.

Teach me to walk in freedom, not shame.
To trust in Your grace, not my perfection.

Use every part of my life, even my weaknesses, for Your glory.

    In Jesus’ name,
    Amen.

    Activation

Today, take a moment to notice your thoughts.

When a thought about your past, your weakness, or your shortcomings arises, gently ask:

👉 “Is this drawing me closer to Jesus, or away from Him?”

If it’s pulling you away, replace it with truth:

    ✔ I am forgiven.
    ✔ I am loved.
✔ God is not finished with me.

Then take one small step forward with God today, whether that’s prayer, reading His Word, or simply talking to Him.

    You are not disqualified.

    You are chosen.
    You are loved.
And your story is still being written.

    God bless you.

    Loving Family Well

Building Faith, Connection, and Legacy Across Generations

Strong families are rarely built through perfection. More often, they are shaped in the ordinary moments, shared meals, gentle conversations, laughter, forgiveness, prayer, and simply choosing to keep showing up for one another in love.

    Choosing Connection

Family has always been deeply important to me. When our children were teenagers and my husband and I were separated, we didn’t want our connections with one another, or our sense of “family”, to slowly drift apart.

So together, we made a decision.

We began a weekly Sunday night family dinner, and by God’s grace, that simple rhythm has continued for the past fourteen years.

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him.”

    Psalm 127:3 (NIV)

Our hope has always been that our children and grandchildren would want to spend time with us, not out of obligation or duty, but because they genuinely enjoy being together.

    Building a Welcoming Family Culture

So how do we create an environment that feels welcoming, safe, peaceful, and fun?

    It begins with relationship.

We take a real interest in what matters to our children and grandchildren. And if I’m honest, that isn’t always easy! Learning about Pokémon, how to catch them, and how Pokémon Go works definitely takes effort. But it’s an effort worth making because love often looks like entering someone else’s world.

Sometimes it means putting aside our chores and never-ending “to-do” lists and simply choosing connection instead.

Pushing a child on a swing.
Playing “What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?”
    Teaching bike riding.
Heading to the pool or beach.
Sitting on the floor playing dolls or hosting a tea party.

Or introducing them to games like Memory, UNO, Yahtzee, or Monopoly.

These moments may seem small, but they build trust, belonging, laughter, and memories that last for generations.

    Growing in Love and Patience

When we speak and respond, we aim to do so with love and kindness.

Now, I certainly can’t say I’ve always done this perfectly. Far from it. But over time, I believe God has been growing my patience and teaching me to become more sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

When we keep our focus on building healthy, life-giving relationships, we can begin taking intentional steps toward that goal.

As parents and grandparents, we long for our children and their families to thrive. We want them to experience the love, joy, peace, companionship, and hope we have found in Jesus.

Ultimately, we want to model Him to them.

Sharing Faith Without Pushing People Away

Families are complex. Every family has its own culture, communication style, and history. I’ve certainly blundered and learned… sometimes the hard way, how not to communicate about God’s Kingdom.

At times, my excitement and enthusiasm to share the love of Jesus has unintentionally backfired.

So how do we help our families truly see Him?

    Firstly, we pray.

We pray that our children, grandchildren, and generations to come would know Jesus intimately and accept Him as Lord, Saviour, Teacher, and Friend.

“He then brought them out and asked, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’
They replied, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved — you and your household.’”

    Acts 16:30–31 (NIV)

Secondly, we resist the urge to lecture.

Even when well-intentioned, preaching at people can sometimes create resistance rather than openness.

Thirdly, we live our faith openly and authentically.

We demonstrate kindness, mercy, humility, peace, forgiveness, and joy in the way we live and love.

“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

    1 John 3:18 (NKJV)

And when questions about faith arise, and they often do, we answer honestly, gently, and without pressure.

The Power of Prayer and Example

I have been richly blessed by a dear friend and mentor who welcomed me into our church community during COVID through something as simple as a phone call. She has faithfully nurtured our friendship ever since, and through her wisdom and encouragement, I’ve learned so much.

She also carries a powerful testimony of how Jesus transformed her life and how, through faithful prayer, every single member of her family eventually came to know Him.

Her story fills me with hope.

What Jesus has done for her family, He can do for mine… and for yours too.

Recently, another dear friend shared a scripture with me to pray over my family:

“When Lot still hesitated, the angels seized his hand and the hands of his wife and two daughters and rushed them to safety outside the city, for the Lord was merciful.”

    Genesis 19:16 (NLT)

    The Lord is merciful.

    He hears our prayers.
    He responds.
He is able to draw our loved ones out of darkness and into His marvellous light.

Never underestimate the quiet power of faithful prayer, loving consistency, and a home filled with grace.

    Prayer

    Loving Father,

Thank You for the precious gift of family. Help us to love well, speak gently, listen carefully, and create homes filled with peace, joy, and belonging.

Teach us to model Your heart through our actions, attitudes, and words. Strengthen our relationships across generations and draw our families closer to You.

Give us wisdom, patience, and grace as we pray for those we love. Remind us that You are always at work, even when we cannot yet see it.

    In Jesus name, Amen.
