Discover creative ways to encourage others and to motivate them toward acts of compassion, doing beautiful works as expressions of love. This is not the time to pull away and neglect meeting together, as some have formed the habit of doing. In fact, we should come together even more frequently, eager to encourage and urge each other onward as we anticipate that day dawning.
Hebrews 10:24-25 (TPT)
The Bible speaks often about the importance of Christians meeting together and encouraging one another. Have you ever wondered why? I believe it’s because the attacks of the enemy are not as easily resisted when we stand alone. Isolation makes it far easier to become distracted, discouraged, and disillusioned.
When we walk alone, life can buffet us until we feel like we’re barely keeping our head above water. But when someone stands beside us, we find strength we didn’t know we had. And when three or more stand together, the strength becomes unshakeable – a steady, supportive environment where we can thrive regardless of what is happening around us.
As Ecclesiastes reminds us:
Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NKJV)
I’ve shared before how my husband and I walked away from fellowship many years ago because of offence. I never imagined how far that choice would take me. My life slowly unravelled in ways I didn’t expect. And yet – even in my distance – God never let go. Looking back, I can see so clearly how He was knocking at the door of my heart the entire time.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Revelation 3:20 (NKJV)
Activate:
So, how do we live this out as Christians?
We make a decision to prioritise gathering with other believers. We reject excuses to stay away. We choose to serve and be part of what God is doing. We join a home group. We check in on others. We reach out, open our homes, and share our lives. We “adult up,” work through conflict, and refuse to take offence.
Community is not always easy – but it is essential.
Prayer:
Lord, give me a heart for community. Show me what You see. Help me reach out, stay connected, and spread Your love wherever I go. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
