Sharing the Gospel Online: How Your Voice Can Become a Mission Field

A group of people in a well lit room with laptops and phones out, depicting sharing the gospel.

The internet has become one of the largest mission fields in the world. Every day millions of people search online for answers, hope, and encouragement. What if God could use your voice, your story, or your creativity to help someone discover Jesus?

Today, sharing the gospel online has become one of the most powerful ways Christians can reach people who may never walk into a church.

The Harvest Is Still Plentiful

Often we assume evangelism is something only certain people are called to do. We might think it is the responsibility of pastors, ministers, missionaries, or well-known evangelists like those in the Billy Graham ministry.

Perhaps we believe they have a special gift or anointing, and that the rest of us are simply called to serve in other ways.

Yet Jesus reminded His disciples:

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Matthew 9:37-38 (NIV)

The need for people to share the gospel has not diminished. If anything, the need is greater than ever.

The Great Commission Still Applies Today

Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He gave His followers a clear instruction:

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)

This command was not only for pastors or missionaries. It was given to all believers.

Sharing the gospel does not mean forcing conversations or making people uncomfortable. Often the most powerful witness comes through simply living in a Christ-like way.

When people see peace, kindness, and hope in our lives, they often become curious and ask questions.

The Internet: A Modern Mission Field

Today we have access to tools previous generations could never have imagined.

Through technology we can reach people across the world.

Platforms like:

  • blogs
  • podcasts
  • YouTube
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • X (Twitter)

have become enormous mission fields.

We do not have to be experts in technology to begin. There are countless tutorials and resources available online that explain how to use these platforms.

What matters most is simply being willing to step out in obedience.

My Own Journey of Stepping Out in Faith

When the Holy Spirit first prompted me to start a blog, I had absolutely no idea where to begin. To be honest, I felt quite intimidated.

Eventually I realized something important: the creativity did not have to come from me. God would provide the inspiration. My role was simply to be obedient.

Once I surrendered my fears and began learning what I needed to know, I eventually published my first blog post.

Later, the Holy Spirit prompted me to start a podcast. This step felt even more daunting! But a dear friend of mine, Sanet, spent many hours on the phone patiently explaining what I needed to do and encouraging me along the way.

I will always be grateful for her support.

And so The Jesus 4 Generations Podcast was born.

Obedience, Not Attention

Some people might wonder whether creating online content is about gaining attention.

For me, the answer is no. In fact, I initially resisted the idea, much like Jonah avoided his calling.

But eventually the Holy Spirit made it clear that obedience was more important than my fears.

My heart is simply to glorify God and share the love, joy, and hope that Jesus brings into our lives.

Faith Requires Courage

Stepping out in faith always involves some risk.

I remember worrying that people might think I was strange or even vain for starting a blog. I feared that others might mock or misunderstand my intentions.

Yet Jesus warned His followers:

For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory and the glory of the Father and the holy angels.

Luke 9:26 (NASB)

At the School of Faith we often say:

Faith is spelled R-I-S-K.

Sharing the gospel sometimes means risking rejection or ridicule. But when we remember what Jesus has done for us, that risk becomes worthwhile.

After all, how will people come to know Christ if no one shares the good news?

Everyone Has Something to Offer

You do not need to start a podcast or blog to share your faith.

Many people use their gifts in creative ways online.

My cousin Annalyn recently began blogging and sharing her love for Jesus with others at Jesus on the Road.

A friend of mine, Genna Bryers, created a YouTube channel called Enveloped Music, where she shares instrumental and worship music.

Even some beautiful images created by designers and artists are generously shared online to encourage people.

Each of these people is using their gifts to spread encouragement and point others toward God.

And I believe you have something valuable to offer as well.

Ask God About Your Mission Field

The internet is full of people searching for hope, truth, and meaning.

Some of them may never walk into a church building, but they might read a blog post, listen to a podcast, or watch a video online.

Why not spend some time asking the Holy Spirit where your mission field might be?

It might begin right at your computer.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the many ways we can share the good news of Jesus in our world today. Thank You for technology and the opportunities it provides to reach people across the globe.

Give us courage to step out in faith and share the hope we have in Christ. Help us use our gifts, our voices, and our creativity to point others toward You.

Guide us by Your Holy Spirit and show us the mission field You have prepared for us.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Activation

Spend a few quiet moments with God today and ask Him this simple question:

“Lord, how can I share Your love with others?”

He may prompt you to:

  • share a testimony
  • write an encouraging post
  • create music or art
  • pray for someone publicly
  • start a blog or podcast
  • or simply share something uplifting online

Take one small step this week and trust God to use it.

You never know whose life might be touched through your obedience.

  1. Hi Sandy

Thanks for another wonderful post. As you say, it’s not easy to obey God’s command to spread His word. That’s often not because we don’t have opportunity, but because we are too scared of what people might think of us. As you say, there is a risk.

I thank God for all the opportunities He has given us – even to speak to the people next door, or our work colleagues.

I thank God for you and your ministry in His name.

And I might have to get some advice on podcasting!
