What if connecting with God didn’t require the perfect moment, the perfect words, or a perfectly quiet hour?
What if it simply required opening the door?
Because the truth is this: Right now is always the best time to begin.
Our Ever-Present Creator
We have an amazing Creator God.
He created everything from nothing. From a tiny blade of grass to the vast galaxies of the cosmos. Our triune God has all power, all knowledge, and is present everywhere at all times.
He doesn’t need appointments.
He doesn’t work through a waiting list.
God doesn’t visit Johnny, then Mary, then Abraham, and then eventually get around to us. He never clocks off. He is always available.
All we need to do is start talking.
As humans, it can be difficult to wrap our minds around that. The Creator of the universe, the One who holds everything together is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and He desires an intimate relationship with us.
Scripture reminds us of this beautiful invitation:
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”
Revelation 3:20 (ESV)
Jesus is knocking.
He is simply waiting to be invited in.
Why Do We Hesitate?
If God is so eager to meet with us, why do we sometimes hesitate to talk with Him?
Perhaps we think we need a long stretch of uninterrupted time.
Maybe we feel we need to be more disciplined, more spiritual, or more “perfect” before approaching Him.
Or maybe we worry we won’t know what to say.
Spending extended time with God is a wonderful blessing. But many of us live busy lives filled with responsibilities, interruptions, and commitments. Finding long, quiet moments can be difficult.
The good news is this: God is not measuring the length of our prayers. He simply delights in our presence.
“The Lord your God is with you,
Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.”
God delights in you.
He rejoices over you.
He isn’t waiting for perfection, He is inviting relationship.
Talking to God Throughout the Day
There is no complicated formula for speaking with God.
We can talk with Him while going about our day, while driving, walking, doing housework, or taking a short break between meetings.
We can check in with Him regularly:
“Lord, what do You think about this?”
“Help me see this situation through Your eyes.”
“Please guide me in this conversation.”
These simple moments create a beautiful rhythm of relationship.
Learning to Speak with God Personally
A few years ago, I realised that fear of not knowing how to speak to God had kept me repeating rote prayers I had learned as a child.
Those prayers are meaningful and valuable, but often we say them automatically, without truly engaging our hearts.
A good friend and mentor once explained something that changed everything for me. He said talking to God is just like talking to your very best friend — but even better.
He demonstrated how naturally he spoke with God, and it opened up a whole new world of intimacy for me.
Now I talk with Him about everything:
My relationships
My finances
My work
My concerns
My hopes
Nothing is off-limits.
And sometimes the most powerful moments come when I simply pause and listen. Listening to God isn’t only with our ears. He speaks through Scripture, through impressions in our hearts, through circumstances, and through the quiet prompting of the Holy Spirit.
Opening the Door
So what are we waiting for?
Jesus is already standing at the door.
All we need to do is open it and invite Him in. Not just into one room of our lives, but into every room.
Wide open.
Nothing hidden.
Nothing held back.
When we do, we begin to experience the intimacy with God that our hearts, souls, and spirits have always longed for.
And remember:
Right now is always the best time to begin.
Prayer
Lord, thank You that You are always near and always available. Thank You that You desire relationship with me, not perfection from me. Help me open the door of my heart fully to You. Teach me to talk with You naturally throughout my day and to listen for Your voice. Draw me into deeper intimacy with You and guide me in every area of my life.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Activation
Today, take a simple step toward God.
Pause for a moment and talk with Him as you would a trusted friend. Share one thing that is on your heart, a concern, a decision, or even something you’re grateful for.
Then take a minute to be quiet and listen.
Make this a small daily habit, and watch how your relationship with God grows.
Because right now is always the best time to begin.
