What if the “end times” weren’t meant to make us afraid, but to awaken us to live with greater love, urgency, and purpose right now?

An Honest Conversation About the End Times
Before we begin, I want to acknowledge something gently. This topic can stir strong feelings, and you may not agree with everything shared here, and that’s okay. My heart is simply to offer a perspective shaped by faith, experience, and a deep desire to see people walk in freedom, not fear.
Over the years, I’ve often felt unsettled by certain “end times” messages, particularly those that focus heavily on fear. While I believe many who share these messages are sincere and passionate about leading people to Jesus, the method can sometimes leave people feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and withdrawn from the world.
But is that really the life Jesus called us to live?
When Fear Becomes the Focus
In today’s world, anyone can share a message online. Social media platforms can amplify voices quickly, and before long, we can find ourselves surrounded by the same fearful narratives again and again.
History shows us this isn’t new.
From fears of nuclear war…
to Y2K…
to predictions tied to the Mayan calendar…
to more recent global concerns…
Many alarming predictions have come and gone without unfolding as expected.
Yet sadly, the impact has often been real.
- People have lost hope
- Some have lost finances
- Relationships have been strained
- And many have withdrawn from the world in fear
A mindset of “just survive until the end” can quietly replace the vibrant, purpose-filled life Jesus invites us into.
What Did Jesus Actually Tell Us to Do?
Jesus’ final words before ascending were not about hiding, withdrawing, or fearing the future. They were a clear call to action:
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses… to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 (NIV)
This is the Great Commission, a call that requires engagement, not retreat.
We cannot disciple nations if we disconnect from them.
No One Knows the Day or the Hour
Jesus also made something very clear:
“But about that day or hour no one knows… but only the Father.”
Matthew 24:36 (NIV)
If we don’t know when, then perhaps our focus should not be on predicting, but on living faithfully today.
The Kingdom of God Is Here and Now
Jesus declared:
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
Mark 1:15 (NKJV)
The Kingdom is not just a future event, it is a present reality.
We are not waiting to live meaningful lives someday.
We are called to live them today.
Yes, we are living in what the Bible refers to as the “last days,” but we have been since Jesus walked the earth. We only have our own lifetime to accept Jesus as our Lord and saviour. We don’t get a second chance. It is in this moment, while we are alive and kicking.
And here’s the key truth:
We don’t know how long we have, but we do know what we are called to do.
Choosing Faith Over Fear
So what does this look like in everyday life?
It looks like choosing:
- Love over fear
- Hope over despair
- Faith over anxiety
- Joy over heaviness
- Peace over panic
It looks like waking up each day grateful for the breath in our lungs.
It looks like walking closely with God, listening, obeying, trusting.
It looks like:
- Loving our neighbours
- Serving our families
- Stewarding what we’ve been given
- Pursuing our God-given calling
- Sharing the Gospel with courage and compassion
It looks like opening our hearts, and even our homes, to others.
Right Now Is Always the Best Time to Begin
We are not called to hide away and wait.
We are called to live fully, love deeply, and shine brightly — right here, right now.
Because the truth is simple:
The time we have is today.
And today is a gift.
A Gentle Reflection
Rather than asking, “When will the end come?”
Perhaps we should ask:
“Am I living the life Jesus called me to today?”
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You are a God of peace, not fear.
Help me to fix my eyes on Jesus and not be distracted by anxiety about the future.
Fill my heart with Your love, Your courage, and Your purpose.
Teach me to live each day intentionally, loving others, serving faithfully, and walking closely with You.
Help me to trust You completely with my future.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
