🌿 When God Calls You Beyond Your Comfort Zone
Sometimes God prepares us for something long before we even realise it.
Then suddenly… the opportunity comes.
And it may feel difficult.
Even impossible.
Strangely, it’s often in an area where we feel weakest.
Something we’ve never considered… or perhaps even avoided.
We may fear failure.
Rejection.
Embarrassment.
And so, we hesitate.
🧠 Why We Resist Stepping Out
As humans, we tend to avoid what we believe we won’t succeed in.
There’s even thought to be a part of the brain, the habenula, linked to remembering failure. We recall unsuccessful attempts vividly, and this can make us reluctant to try again.
So when God calls us into something unfamiliar, our natural response can be to shrink back.
But God’s ways are not like ours.
📖 God’s Response to Our Insecurity
When we look at those called in the Bible, we see a pattern.
God often chooses people who feel completely unqualified.
Take Moses.
When God called him to lead the Israelites out of captivity, Moses responded with excuse after excuse, highlighting his weaknesses and inadequacies.
But God didn’t argue with him.
He didn’t list Moses’ strengths.
He simply said:
“I will be with you.”
Exodus 3:12 (NIV)
That was the answer.
✝️ It’s Not About Us—It’s About Him
God is not depending on our strength…
our knowledge…
or our skills.
Those things may help, but they are not the foundation.
The foundation is this:
He goes with us.
“Fear not, for I am with you;
Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
Because of Him and the hope we have in His promises, we can step forward.
🌿 Who God Chooses
Consider Gideon.
He was called a mighty man of valour… yet when he was found, he was hiding in a winepress, threshing wheat.
Hardly the picture of courage.
But God didn’t call him based on who he was in that moment.
He called him based on who he was becoming.
And Gideon rose into that calling.
💛 My Personal Journey
When the Holy Spirit first placed this blog on my heart…
I felt completely unqualified.
I have no formal writing training.
I haven’t attended Bible college.
I’m not a theologian.
And I wondered…
“What will people think?”
I hesitated.
I resisted.
I came up with reasons why I wasn’t the right person.
But God gently, persistently called me forward.
With fear and trembling, I wrote my first post.
And do you know what I discovered?
God is faithful.
Every time I sit down to write, He meets me there.
I start… and He fills in the blanks.
I am not doing this alone.
“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT)
I am humbled that people take the time to read these words.
I am grateful for the encouragement of family and friends.
And incredibly… this blog has now reached people in over one hundred countries.
All because I said yes—while still feeling unqualified.
🌱 Your Calling Matters
When you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you were born again.
And you were given a unique calling.
Something only you can carry.
If the Holy Spirit is prompting you to step into something—
you do not need to fear being “not enough.”
His grace is sufficient.
He will not leave you.
He will walk with you every step of the way.
🕊️ A Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You do not call us based on our strength, but on Your purpose.
Help us to trust You when we feel unqualified.
Give us the courage to step forward in obedience.
Remind us that You are with us, strengthening and guiding us.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
🌱 Activation
Take a moment today and ask yourself:
- Is God prompting me to step into something I’ve been avoiding?
- What fear is holding me back?
- What would one small step of obedience look like?
Write it down.
Pray over it.
And take that first step.
💛 Closing
You may feel unqualified…
but you are not alone.
God does not call the equipped—
He equips the called.
And you may be amazed at what happens
when you choose to co-labour with Him.
Right now is always the best time to begin.
