When Life Feels Like It’s Closing In
When all sides are pressing in…
When the situation seems hopeless in the natural…
When your greatest hopes for your future, for your children, for your grandchildren, feel like they are slipping away…
Turn your eyes upon Jesus.
There are moments when the weight feels too much.
When our children or grandchildren wander far from God…
When they are struggling—mentally, physically, spiritually…
When their choices put them at risk…
It can feel like we are watching something precious unravel before our eyes.
But even here… He is still present.
We Don’t See the Full Picture
Scripture reminds us:
“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”
1 Corinthians 13:12 (NIV)
Our view is limited.
We see fragments.
We see what is happening right now.
But God sees the whole story.
He is not bound by time, circumstance, or what appears permanent in the natural world.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28 (NIV)
Even the things that seem broken…
Even the situations that feel beyond repair…
God is weaving them together into something good.
Emmanuel: God With Us
We are never alone.
He is Emmanuel—God with us.
He created us for relationship, for closeness, for intimacy with Him.
He sees.
He knows.
He cares deeply.
And He is working, even when we cannot see it.
“So do not fear, for I am with you;
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
What a promise to hold onto.
Another in the Fire
The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Daniel 3 is one of the most powerful pictures of God’s presence in the midst of trial.
They refused to bow to the king’s image—and were thrown into a blazing furnace.
Yet something extraordinary happened.
They were not alone.
The king looked into the fire and saw four men, not three—walking freely in the flames.
God was with them.
Protecting them.
Sustaining them.
And when they came out?
Not a hair was singed.
Not even the smell of smoke remained.
What an incredible reminder:
God doesn’t always remove us from the fire—
but He will meet us in it.
Hope That Rises Again
This truth breathes life back into weary hearts.
When hope feels like it is fading…
God can reignite it.
What looked like dying embers can become a roaring, unquenchable flame again.
Because He is with you.
Working.
Moving.
Restoring.
Trusting Him With What We Cannot Control
With the quiet confidence that comes from knowing Emmanuel is with us, we can place our burdens into His hands.
We can trust Him with our children.
With our grandchildren.
With the situations we cannot fix.
He is in it.
He is working through it.
And He is bringing His purposes to completion.
Don’t Let the Fire Go Out
Don’t allow what you see in the natural to quench what God is doing in the spirit.
Even when you cannot feel Him…
Even when you cannot see a way forward…
He is still there.
He loves you.
He is for you.
And He has a purpose for your life.
Prayer
Lord,
When everything feels out of control, help me to remember that You are with me.
When I cannot see what You are doing, strengthen my faith to trust You anyway.
I place my children, my family, and every burden on my heart into Your hands.
Be present in every situation. Work in ways I cannot see.
Restore my hope and remind me that I am never alone.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
